Footnotes

The following 17 lots (numbers 149-165) are from the Nigel Dawes Model Collection at Birtsmorton Court . A well-known car collector and highly regarded silversmith by profession Nigel Dawes turned his practiced craftsman's hands to model making when he retired and preceded to make fine scale scratch-built models of cars when he could not find a kit for them, for those where kits were available, he customised and adapted them to suit his requirements as he built them. Some of the other models were bought readymade to fill gaps in the collection. Which represents the finest examples of motorcars through the motoring ages. Part II of the collection (pre-1940 vehicles) will be offered in the Golden Age of Motoring auction, 4 Nov 2022 at Bonhams, 101 New Bond Street.
