Frederick Gordon Crosby (1885-1943), 'Sammy Davis 1930',
The original bronze of this sculpture was commissioned from Frederick Gordon Crosby by friends of S.C.H. 'Sammy' Davis. The finished work was presented to him while he was in hospital recuperating from a crash at Brooklands Easter Monday 1930. The mould was later re-cast for use as the Brooklands Trials Championship Trophy as well as other castings for decorative use. Crosby used generic features of Aston Martin, Riley, Alvis and MG cars to create this bronze.
A similar casting of this bronze appears in John J Zolomij: The Motor Car in Art (see page 140).
