"The Mercedes 220 SE Coupé is a very fine engineering achievement. Not only does it provide fast and economical transport for four and their luggage, but outstanding road-holding and riding qualities make this a car which is a pleasure to drive hard, and one in which it is safe and comfortable to do so. Furthermore, it has superb brakes and a high standard of mechanical refinement." – The Autocar.

This stunning Mercedes-Benz 220 SEb Cabriolet was delivered new in Germany to a member of the United States armed forces, whom, it is assumed, shipped the car back home at the end of his deployment. Equipped from new with the desirable manual transmission, the Mercedes eventually returned to Germany where it was fully restored to concours condition (see copies of restoration photos on file). Importantly, the original engine and manual gearbox have been retained. A previous owner purchased the Mercedes at Retro Classics, Stuttgart in 2015 and reportedly used it sparingly, covering only some 1,000 kilometres over the next six years. Shown at the Coppa Classic Concours in Belgium, where it won the 'Best Restored Car' award, the Mercedes was acquired by the Jean Guikas Collection in 2020. Purchased by our vendor in November 2021, it remains in beautiful condition today. Attractively finished in Burgundy with tan interior, the car is offered for sale with a tonneau cover, tool roll, fire extinguisher and warning triangle, as well as owner's manuals and a copy of its factory data card.
