1957 Porsche 356A Coupé

1957 Porsche 356A Coupé
Registration no. ESK 745
Chassis no. 102092

• Original right-hand drive South African car
• Brought to the UK 36 years ago
• Used daily for many years
• Restored circa 1997
• Kept in dehumidified storage as part of a private collection
• Recent service and MoT

1955 marked the arrival of the revised 'A' version of Porsche's Type 356 sports car, the newcomer being readily distinguished by its curved windscreen and 15" - down from 16" - wheels. At the same time, a 1,600cc engine replaced the old 1.5-litre unit and would be standardised on the successor 356B model. Regularly revised and updated, Porsche's landmark sports car would remain in production well into the 911 era, the final examples being built in 1965.

This original right-hand drive car was delivered new to South Africa. Imported into the UK in September 1988, the Porsche has been used on a daily basis for many years in and around London. Amazingly, it still has the original interior from 1957. A running history documenting maintenance and restoration carried out over the years has been kept. Also accompanying the car is the original Porsche workshop manual and supplements manual as well as a tool kit, spare wheel, and jack.

Restored circa 1997 (including an engine rebuild to original specification), the car has been part of a private collection and been kept stored in de-humidified accommodation (Waxoyl has been applied since restoration). It has seen little used in recent years but has just been extensively serviced (including a new battery) and comes with a fresh MoT. According to our vendor, the car drives very well and over the years has taken part in various Porsche 356 events, both here and in Europe.
