1963 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Drophead Coupé

1963 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Drophead Coupé
Coachwork by Pilkington in the style of H J Mulliner

Registration no. 815 NOJ
Chassis no. SCX871

• Converted into a drophead coupé in the 1980s by Pilkington Coachworks
• Originally a four-door saloon
• Restored by Chelsea Workshops in 2004
• Only circa 8,400 miles since conversion
• Offered from an R-REC member's private collection

The scarcity, and considerable cost, of an original H J Mulliner drophead coupé adaptation has seen several independent specialists offer soft-top conversions over the years, this example being by a former H J Mulliner craftsman. Originally a four-door saloon, delivered new to Mr W. Ivor Lewis of M O Lewis & Co. LTD (Cardiff) and registered 1 HHX. Several owners later, and now registered '815 NOJ' the motorcar was converted by Pilkington Coachworks in the 1980s and subsequently shipped to Hong Kong, briefly returning to the UK in 2004 to be restored by marque specialists Chelsea Workshops at a cost in excess of £20,000. The 'Cloud is now finished in Rolls-Royce Midnight Blue with blue-piped cream leather interior and dark blue fabric hood, the latter recently renewed. Other notable interior features include fitted woollen carpets and burled Circassian walnut trim.

The Silver Cloud was purchased by the present owner in 2018 having belonged to a fellow R-REC member. Used regularly for R-REC runs throughout Ireland, the car displays a total of 13,575 miles on the odometer and is said to be in excellent condition mechanically, with pristine interior, while the convertible hood operates efficiently. Only some 8,400 miles have been covered since the 1980s conversion and the car has been well maintained both mechanically and cosmetically, having been serviced annually by the enthusiast owner and stored in a heated garage.

Boasting four new tyres, the car comes complete with an original spare wheel and jack and is offered with records of the 2004 restoration expenditure, a V5C Registration Certificate, and a recent MoT certificate.

Saleroom notices

Please note that the paperwork for the 2004 restoration is not with the car.
