First registered in London in August 1936, 'DGF 863' has had just six custodians to date. The previous owner, a former Standard Triumph service engineer, acquired the Vitesse in 1996. Despite being restored in the 1960s, it was in a sorry state. The new owner proceeded to carry out a thorough body-off restoration which took over seven years to complete. All the original outer panels were carefully restored, while the ash frame was almost completely renewed. The interior was retrimmed, a new wiring loom fitted, the dashboard instruments overhauled as necessary.

Post-restoration it was found that the cylinder block had cracked and in 2006 the engine was rebuilt around a replacement block by Cotterell Engineering of Derby at a cost of £2,447. In addition, the cylinder head was rebuilt and converted to run on unleaded fuel for an additional £1,164; the carburettors overhauled, the radiator re-cored; a new water pump fitted; a solid-state regulator conversion carried out; the wheels refurbished; and new tyres fitted all round. Bills on file total well over £25,000.

Our vendor was sold the car via Brightwell's in 2018. Since this time, further significant expenditure has been carried out, with bills from Blue Diamond Riley Services Limited totalling over £33,000 (available on file) It comes with a substantial history file containing extensive restoration records; various black-and-white photographs of the car from the 1960s; an original owner's handbook; and a parts catalogue. Only 20 Vitesse models survive today; according to the Pre-1940 Triumph Motor Club, only 13 of them retain their saloon bodywork, which makes 'DGF 863' an extremely rare car.
