Lot 271◊◊◊

A 1924 Amanco Hired Man 2 1/2 Hp stationary engine, American,

A 1924 Amanco Hired Man 2 1/2 Hp stationary engine, American,

serial number 163393, petrol engine, no load speed controlled by hit and miss governor, this particular engine was purchased by the vendor in 1978 from Prickwillow Pumping Station near Ely where it was used to open a valve that allowed water to enter one of the large Mirrlees, Bickerton & Day engines. These pumped water from the Fens into the River Lark. Interestingly the pump house was opened in 1924 so it is possible that this engine was part of the initial installation.
Restored in 1979, with a magneto repair in 2018, this engine was regularly displayed at steam fairs and local rallies before ill health of the vendor and then Covid prevented further participation. It has been in dry garage storage since its last outing in August 2018, turns over freely and has good compression. 110cm long x 62cm wide x 57cm high, flywheel diameter is 50cm and drive pulley 15.5cm, mounted on wooden runners, with some ancillary magneto spares and starting handle.
