1962 Bentley S2 Continental Sports Saloon

It is understood that this Bentley Continental has had three previous owners: the original purchaser Mrs Elizabeth Denny of Helensburgh, Dumbartonshire; the British actress Jill Bennett (according to the owner before our vendor); and lastly, the owner or Managing Director of the Nissan/Datsun dealership on London's Warwick Road.

In 1976, when he was 21, our vendor happened to be driving past the aforementioned Nissan/Datsun dealership when he saw 'EVA 10' on the forecourt. Falling in love immediately, he pulled in to make enquiries and was told the Bentley was the property of the 'Boss'. A deal was concluded for the asking price. It is believed a replacement engine was installed before our vendors ownership in 1976.

'EVA 10' has been in the vendor's unbroken ownership since then, garaged on his family estate in Hampshire. He has made one continental journey in the Bentley: in 1977 from the UK to Madrid and across the Basque country. He left the car in Pamplona, to be driven home by his chauffeur. Otherwise, the mileage with the vendor has been entirely in England, most of it local. A much-loved family car, the Continental was used for the owner's wedding to his first wife in 1981; his daughter's wedding in 2014; and for the christenings of his three children. The Bentley also participated in at least two of the Classic Car Rallies in aid of the Hampshire Medical Fund.

The Continental has had a respray in original colours while in the present ownership. Routine mechanical maintenance has been carried out over the decades, with significant expenditure in 2020 with the Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialists, Phantom Motor Cars (see detailed invoice on file). As a result of this work, the car is reported to be running as smoothly as it must have done when leaving the showroom in 1962. Accompanying documentation consists of copies of factory build sheets, chassis cards, and Mulliner specifications; a V5C Registration Certificate; current MoT; and the aforementioned Phantom Motor Cars invoice.

According to the vendor: "It is with very great sadness that I am selling her. I have moved from the family estate to London. She had not been used much in recent years and is being used even less now that I have relocated. I believe it is not good for machinery to stand idle for substantial periods of time, so she needs to move on, hopefully to an owner who will love her as I have."
