THE HONDA DREAM

Honda's onslaught on the American motorcycle market reached full swing in the 1960s. Much of their success was achieved through the availability of seemingly countless small-displacement models that were extremely well-engineered, uniquely stylish, yet surprisingly affordable. Honda's first decade of operation in the USA saw the import of the Cub, Benly, Hawk, Scrambler and, of course, the square-edged Dream tourer. In production from 1960 to 1967, and of 250 and 305cc specification, Dreams were built thick and fast, with various options and configurations to suit buyers needs. Through its obsessive engineering, Honda took much of the mystery out of motorcycling, ensuring their machines were accessible to newcomers and experienced riders alike, and their success was undoubtedly helped by wonderful 1960s marketing campaigns.

The CA77 Dream's pressed steel frame housed a rev-happy overhead camshaft parallel twin engine, mated to a drivetrain capable of resisting untold use and abuse. Even the full enclosure of the drive chain seemed to allow it to last forever. Suspension was quite conventional, tuned for touring comfort rather than outright handling. In fact, its ride quality was widely touted in its day, and the Dream became immensely popular with commuters the world over due to its reliability and easy-going demeanor. The Honda Dream has earned its place as a motorcycling icon, and remains much loved by collectors.

THE MOTORCYCLE OFFERED

Previously in the care of a Northwestern motorcycle collection, this beautifully restored 1965 Honda CA77 Dream was acquired by the consignor in 2021 and has been displayed in their private collection since. Finished in a lovely, period-correct color scheme of blue with a red saddle and polished tank sides, it is a wonderful example of the eminently charming and innovative Honda Dream. The excellent restoration is further enhanced by such niceties as an optional factory windshield and rare color-matched hard panniers. It additionally includes a copy of a parts catalog for the model, an owner's manual, and tool kit.

As a bike to ride on sunny weekends or simply savor its beautiful lines, this charming little Honda is sure to be a dream come true.
