THE CAR OFFERED

The zenith of the Muscle Car Era brought us many mythical beasts from deep within the Big Three's respective Skunkworks. A cold war was raging in Detroit, as Ford, GM and Chrysler sought supremacy on the drag strip and in the battle for ultimate 'street cred.' Incredible engines emerged like GM's L88, Ford's Boss 429 and 427 'Cammer,' and one of the most famous of all, Mopar's illustrious 426 Hemi, and they were none more potent when fitted to mid-sized pony cars.

The 426 Hemi made its way into several vehicles in the Chrysler lineup, but it made perhaps its biggest impact when shoved between the fenders of the mid-sized Dodge Challenger R/T. Packing 425 horsepower (likely more) and a massive 490 ft/lbs of torque, the Hemi Challenger was a proper weapon.

Offered here from the Golden State Muscle Car Collection is one of a reported 287 1970 Hemi Challengers built – and believed to be one of just 12 Hemi cars equipped with a 4-speed manual and Shaker Hood from new. Finished in Hemi Orange with a black vinyl roof and decked out with black R/T stripes, factory rear spoiler, and factory rear window louvers, this car epitomizes Mopar muscle in the 70s. The subject of an older, yet detailed and faithful restoration, it is presented in excellent condition, showing signs of moderate use while remaining exceptionally tidy and authentic. Factory Rallye wheels shod with period-correct Goodyear Polyglas tires lend the right dose of brash aggression. Accompanying documentation includes the broadcast sheet, with decoding sheets tracing this car's highly desirable options and equipment.

Interestingly, Plymouth sold considerably more Hemi-powered 'Cudas compared to the Dodge Challenger sister car, making this an exceptionally rare opportunity. Undoubtedly a star of the Golden State Muscle Car Collection, this is your chance to experience the brutal thrill of authentic Mopar Hemi power with this eminently collectible Challenger R/T.
