THE CAR OFFERED

In 2005, Ford fans rejoiced at the news that FoMoCo had finally revived its long-dormant relationship with Shelby American, which ended in 1970 after then-chairman of Ford Bunkie Knudsen took Shelby production in-house, much to the displeasure of the dynamic Texan.

The Shelby Mustang was reborn, and to the relief of Mustang enthusiasts, they were genuine performance cars developed by Shelby American, and not just 'badge and sticker' packages. In 2008, Ford announced the return of the legendary GT500 KR, a special S197 Mustang developed by Shelby American and powered by a supercharged 5.4-liter DOHC V8, updated with new intercooling and tuning to belt out 540bhp at 6,250rpm. The car also gained unique wheels, bodywork, suspension tuning, and badging in honor of the 1968 original.

Like the original 1968 GT500 KR, Shelby produced 1,571 of the new generation cars for the American market (an additional 141 were built for export), ensuring 'instant collectible' status. This 2009 example was purchased new by the Golden State Muscle Car Collection to complement the other GT500s already in the stable. It is one of just 278 cars finished in Silver Metallic with Vista Blue stripes, and being a KR, it boasts an additional 40 horsepower over the standard GT500.

This one-owner car has covered just 4,349 miles from new and is accompanied by a clean CARFAX report. It is in excellent condition, reflecting its exceptionally low miles. The S197 GT500 KR is a worthy successor to the original, and a worthy bearer of the Shelby badge –bringing stonking performance and genuine collectability to the venerable Mustang.
