Presented on Ghia's stand at the Turin Motorshow in 1966, the Maserati Ghibli (type AM115) supersedes the 3500GT. It takes the name of a warm wind of the Sahara desert, an image which sticks to it. Giorgetto Giugiaro who designed the elegant lines himself regarded it as his masterpiece. In 1999, he was elected designer of the century. Icon celebrated even up to the seventh art, the 2 seat coupé by Ghia is immortalised in the movie La Piscine (1969), Alain Delon driving it in Saint-Tropez's countryside. Henry Ford himself, under the spell of its incredible lines, had one sent to his designers' office in Dearborn, to present it as a model of elegance and purity.

Eternal rival to the Ferrari Daytona 365 GTB/4 it was different by its superior price and comfort. Much less at ease on a circuit, the Maserati Ghibli was intended for large areas and cruising on long straight roads. Propelled by its double overhead 4,719cc all aluminium V8, the 2 seat coupé promised stunning performances with a top speed of 165 mph (265 km/h). Developing 310 bhp at 5,500 rpm, the Ghibli received 4 double barrel Weber carburettors.

Leaving the factory in 1971, chassis 115.2329 was delivered in the north of Germany. In 1982, it changed hands to join a very important collection from the Essen area. It was then restored with original new spare parts, in spite of its very low milage (27,000 km). In 1997, its new owner entrusted the car to the Maserati importer in Germany where it was equipped with a new exhaust system and completely overhauled, for a bill totalising some 20,000 DM of the time. Its condition is so exceptional that it is invited to enter the Louis Vuitton concours d'élégance at Bagatelle, Paris, that same year. It is then acquired in an auction in 2004 by Gilles Bonafous, renowned car journalist and father of the present owner. It's a story of love at first sight, the fulfilment of a 40 year old dream. In 2010, he gave to his son this very exceptional Ghibli, a real graal cherished by all its different owners, of which Bonafous used to say : « To drive this masterpiece at 100 km/h is like dancing in Mona Lisa's arms ».

Reading only 35,000 km on the odometer, this sky blue with beige leather interior example is a serious contender to any "concours d'élégance". Equipped with the rare period options of 4 Borrani wheels and power steering, this Ghibli registered in France is accompanied by its tool roll, restoration invoices, service booklet and original owner's manual. The engine has been revised by Pierre Nallet (Garage du Trident) in 2019. The Ghibli has passed pre-certification, making it eligible to apply for the certification procedure with Maserati Classiche.

Without any doubt, this Maserati Ghibli represent to any amateur the opportunity of a life to acquire one of the most beautiful example on sale on the market or even the most remarkable of all.
