Sir Roger Moore (1927-2017) is synonymous with the style and sophistication of James Bond, having played the spy in a total of seven films, more than any other actor in the series. More than this, Sir Roger became one of the style symbols of his generation and an icon of British cool, with his credits also including the TV shows The Saint and The Persuaders.

Over the last two decades, the Smart microcar had become a familiar sight in cities around the world. Unusually, it was not the creation of an established motor manufacturer but a watchmaker: SMH, makers of Swatch watches. Smart CEO Nicolas Hayek realised that collaboration with a motor industry partner was the way forward and concluded a deal with Daimler-Benz in 1994. An egg-shaped two-seater, the Fortwo Coupé was powered by a rear-mounted petrol engine that drove the rear wheels. Updated with more modern engines and drive trains, the basic concept endures to this day.

Its owner from new, Sir Roger Moore loved using his Smart as it was so low key, while its small size meant that he could often park it between two other cars. When his children asked him about the car he'd say: 'the bigger the star, the smaller the car'! Sir Roger used the Smart for shopping, visiting restaurants, etc as it was easy to park in Monaco. Kept at his home in the South of France, the Smart has seen little use in recent years and has covered only circa 3,000 kilometres from new. It is offered from his estate, the bulk of which was sold by Bonhams last year, and comes with a Monegasque Certificat d'Immatriculation.
