The Poochchair by RSHP
By Simon Tonks for RSHP
Client: Wire Haired Fox Terrier (childhood friend)
Proposal: Companion piece for city streets and urban living rooms and terraces
Material: Recycled Cork Oak Bark sheeting + Donor Poochchair + Woolly jumper + S/S bowl + Canine
Sustainability credentials: 100% recycled 'cradle to cradle' 'basket to basket'
Dogs work for us in so many ways. Companion, retriever, protector, listener. And we then work for them. As a child the family employed the fierce-some services of a Wired Haired Fox Terrier. Great grand daughter to a Crufts Champion. Daft as a brush. She would listen to Her Mistress Voice on occasion, and would often take cover in a whicker basket before launching.
This contraption is in honour of all of the terriers – both painterly, stuffed, jumping - that have listened, accompanied, chased, nipped. A whine-stopper.
The design takes its clues from the billions of corks that are popped a year, the HMV Nipper painting, wheeled toddler trainers, strollers alike. Wheeled to allow for movement around the house, garden, pavement, city, place of work.
The gramophone in the corner, the deployable conversation piece, barking back to dogdays of yore.
