1975 BMW 3.0 CSi E9 Coupé Chassis no. 4341049 Engine no. 4341049
BMW returned to six-cylinder power for its top-of-the-range models in 1968 with the launch of the 2500 and 2800 saloons together with the stylish 2800 CS coupé. Designated 'E9', the latter was powered by the 2800 saloon's M30 engine, though its running gear had more in common with the existing, four-cylinder 2000C/CS. The 2800 CS's replacement by the similarly styled 3.0-litre CS in 1971 brought with it numerous improvements, including four-wheel disc brakes in place of the old disc/drum combination. With 180bhp on tap courtesy of its larger engine, the 3.0 CS was good for in excess of 211 km/h, with even more performance on offer from the 3.0 CSi. The latter's Bosch D-Jetronic fuel-injected engine produced 200bhp, only a whisker below the maximum enjoyed by the lightweight CSL Group 2 'homologation special', affectionately known as the 'Batmobile' on account of its futuristic aerodynamic body kit, developed at Stuttgart University and used from mid-1973 onwards. Today these exciting and charismatic Grand Tourers enjoy enthusiastic following and well-preserved examples are increasingly sought after.
This BMW 3.0 CSi was completed in 1975 and registered in Germany on 2nd June the same year. While little is known about its time in Germany it is believed to have exported to the Netherlands in the 1980s. The 3.0 CSi remained in the Netherlands up to 2018, when it was bought by the current Belgian owner, the odometer reading at that time was 88,710 kilometres. He had the car inspected and serviced by an official Belgian BMW dealership who confirmed that the car was matching numbers chassis and engine. Since then the BMW has been used sparingly. The current odometer reading being just above 91,250 kilometres today.
An older restoration completed to high standards, the car is presented in a very good condition in the desirable colour scheme of 'Arktisblau Metallic' with dark blue leather panelling and black leather seats with velours inserts. Power comes from the numbers-matching 3.0L M30B30 inline-six paired engine with a four-speed manual transmission.
This car comes with its owners manuals, brief history file, 14" Alpina wheels with Vredestein tires (including the spare wheel), tinted power windows, two electric adjustable side mirrors, period Blaupunkt radio, its trunk mounted tool kit & jack and Belgian registration documents with the most-suitable registration plate 'B-30-CSI'.
The production of the CSi model spanned from 1971 to 1975, it's believed that only 7,935 were built and today it is rare to find an unmolested example like this. Therefore, this 3.0 CSi provides a distinctive chance to acquire a sought-after late production European-market example with a four-speed manual gearbox and very rare factory sunroof.
