Number '12' of only 30 produced 2021 Aprilia Tuono V4 X Frame no. ZD4KGB0C1MS000002
Aprilia's perennially popular Tuono first emerged in 2002 as the streetfighter-style 'naked' version of the Italian manufacturer's contemporary RSV Mille superbike, with which it shared its engine, transmission, frame and suspension. The Tuono continued with the RSV Mille's Rotax-designed 1,000cc v-twin engine until 2012 when it was superseded by the new 1,000cc V4-engined version using the power plant of the recently introduced RSV4 superbike. Like the latter, the new Tuono V4 featured Aprilia's APRC (Aprilia Performance Ride Control) electronics package offering multiple options for traction control, wheelie control and launch control. The Tuono's engine capacity increased to 1,100cc for 2015.
As sales of superbikes have continued to decline, so competition in the hyper-naked category has hotted up. One of Aprilia's most recent offerings in this market sector is the Tuono V4 X, a limited edition model built by Aprilia Racing and intended for track use only. The V4 X is part of the firm's Aprilia Racing Factory Works programme, which specialises in applying racetrack technology to its road models. With a claimed maximum power output of 221bhp (at the crankshaft) the Tuono V4 X is intended for experienced riders only. Notable features include an Akrapovic exhaust system with titanium headers; multi-mode ECU; gearbox quick-shifter (up/down); track-data TFT display; Öhlins semi-active suspension; forged magnesium Marchesini wheels; slick tyres; Brembo GP4-MS brake callipers; and numerous lighter-than-stock components.
Reflecting on his experience of riding the Tuono V4 X around the Red Bull Ring, Aprilia's MotoGP works rider Aleix Espargarò had this to say: "The Tuono V4 X is out of this world. I had never tested a high-handlebar bike on the track, and I was surprised at the feeling of stability. The engine is insane, but the chassis architecture doesn't struggle. To the contrary, the riding position and the electronics make it extremely fun. You can ride it cleanly, but you can also drift with it if you want to. It is a pure sportbike with a hooligan side!"
With only 30 built, the Tuono V4 X is extremely special and virtually impossible to find, with the few available trading at above list price. Still in its crate, this example has never been used and is presented in effectively new condition, complete with the manufacturer's Certificate of Origin. An opportunity not to be missed.
