1924 OK 269cc Junior Frame no. S 4725 Engine no. D1903
• Purchased in 1998
• An older restoration
• Eligible for the Banbury Run and Graham Walker Run
OK - the 'Supreme' came later - was founded by bicycle manufacturer Humphries & Dawes Limited of Birmingham. The company that would become Humphries & Dawes was founded in Birmingham in 1899 by Ernie Humphries, who was joined in 1906 by Charles Dawes. The firm made bicycle components and then parts for motorcycles before experimenting with powered two-wheelers in the early years of the 20th Century, exhibiting a Precision-engined three-model range in 1911. Two-stroke lightweights powered by Villiers or Union engines were added immediately after The Great War, and in 1921 the Junior model adopted OK's own engine, though the latter was in all probability merely a re-badged Union. Charles Dawes and Ernie Humphries split in 1926, the latter continuing motorcycle production using the name 'OK-Supreme'.
Carrying UK registration plates 'DS 6658', this Villiers-powered OK Junior is registered in the UK as a 'HUMPHRIESDAWES (sic). Restored and nicely presented, the machine was purchased at a UK auction in December 1993, at which time it was stated that the then owner had acquired it in 1989 in totally un-restored condition. Accompanying documentation includes the auction catalogue page, a magazine article (in German), and old-style UK V5 registration document. It should be noted that the V5 records the frame number as '15'.
