Manufactured between 2003 and 2010, their new supercar allowed Mercedes-Benz and its then Formula 1 partner, McLaren, to showcase their collective experience in the development, construction, and production of high-performance sports cars and, just like its legendary 300 SLR predecessor of 1955, it incorporated technological developments that were ahead of their time. Yet the term 'supercar' does not do full justice to the SLR, which, its peerless performance notwithstanding, is a luxurious and finely engineered Gran Turismo in the best traditions of Mercedes-Benz. An open roadster and various special editions followed, and by the time production ceased in 2010 a little over 2,000 of all types had been built.

The heart of any car is its engine, and that of the SLR McLaren is truly outstanding. Produced at Mercedes-Benz's AMG performance division, it is a 5.5-litre, 24-valve, supercharged V8 producing 617bhp, making it one of the most powerful engines ever found in a series-produced road-going sports car. Impressive though this peak horsepower figure is, it is the torque produced by this state-of-the-art 'blown' motor that is its most remarkable feature. The torque curve is almost flat: there is already 440lb/ft by 1,500 rpm and well over 500lb/ft between 3,000 and 5,000 revs. As Car & Driver magazine observed: "This lends mind-boggling elasticity to the SLR, with passing performance that has to be felt to be appreciated."

Reflecting the long-term technological collaboration that Mercedes-Benz and McLaren enjoyed in Formula 1, the SLR's carbon fibre composite monocoque body/chassis structure was produced in the latter's then all-new facility in Woking, England. Topping off this technological tour de force is the electronically controlled rear spoiler.

Needless to say, the SLR McLaren delivers performance figures that are still among the best in its class. Taking just 3.8 seconds to sprint from 0-100km/h (62mph), it passes the 200km/h (125mph) mark after 10.6 seconds and from a standing start takes just 28.8 seconds to reach 300km/h (186mph). The two-seater has a top speed of 334km/h (207mph). The five-speed automatic transmission was specially optimised for very high torque and also offered the driver the option of choosing between different shift characteristics using the Speedshift system.

In 2006 Mercedes-Benz introduced the '722 Edition, the '722' referring to the victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia of Stirling Moss and his co-driver Denis Jenkinson, whose Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR had the starting number '722' (indicating a start time of 7:22 a.m.). The 722 Editions are highly sought after, with only 150 produced, and numerous upgrades over the standard car including a power boost to 641hp, revised dampers and aerodynamic upgrades.

Offered from the vendor's extensive private collection in the Middle East, this example has been on static display since acquisition hence the low mileage of just 131km recorded on the odometer. It is finished in the very attractive and rare Crystal Digenit Blue metallic paintwork, with tan leather interior. The car will require recommissioning before returning to the road. The only documentation offered with the car consists of a (photocopy) registration card.

Shipping Notices
Collection of Purchases
Purchases can only be released when cleared funds have been received and the release has been authorised by Bonhams.
Collection of vehicles is available by appointment only - whether you intend on driving the car away from storage or are using a vehicle transport company.
Vehicles will not be available for collection on Sunday 26 November and Monday 27 November due to restrictions of the weekend. Vehicles will be available for release, providing receipt of cleared funds have been received, from Tuesday 28 November. All vehicle collections must be co-ordinated via our transport representatives, The Stables.
Please note that following the sale a Bonhams representative will reach out to Buyers directly regarding plans for onward shipping and storage. If Bonhams hasn't received any response, please note that your purchase may be removed to a temporary storage facility by our shipping and storage partner The Stables. This movement may incur a charge.
All storage and removal charges must be paid in full prior to the vehicle's collection or onward transportation.
Payment of the storage charges and any relevant transport must be arranged with The Stables.

Buyers may have an authorised agent collect their purchases according to the collection deadline.
It is the buyer's responsibility to ensure that their designated agent has the auction venue details, bill of lading showing where the lot will be transported and proof of the buyer authorization for collection of the lot(s).
Buyers and/or their agent are responsible for collecting all available parts, logbooks, title, keys.
Exporting your Purchase
If you are planning to export your purchased vehicle, please alert the Sale Administration Manager and advise who will be handling your transport.
If you are shipping with a Bonhams-preferred shipper
If you decide to ship with a Bonhams-preferred shipper, Bonhams shall zero-rate your invoice of all VAT, although you are responsible for all export deadlines being met. For further information on Bonhams-preferred shippers, please contact the Sale Administration Manager.
If you are shipping with a Third-Party shipper
If you choose to ship with a third-party shipper, Bonhams will require your invoice to be settled inclusive of all VAT. The VAT will be refunded to you on receipt of valid Proof of Export. To submit a claim for refund of VAT, the lot is legally required to be exported within strict deadlines. For lots on which Import VAT has been charged (marked in the catalogue with a Ω) lots must be exported within 30 days of Bonhams' receipt of payment and/or within 3 months of the date of the Sale, whichever is the earlier. For all other lots export must take place within the same stated timeline.
