2004 Maserati 4200 Trofeo Light Chassis no. 04
In 2001, Maserati introduced the 4200, replacing the old 3200 GT dating from 1998. Based on the 3200 GT, the model was shortly followed by the Trofeo race car designed for a one-make series. After the initial Trofeo, Maserati debuted the Trofeo Light, International competition among the other great marques of the period. Examples of the Trofeo Light raced in the Italian GT Championship, Rolex Sports Car Series and FIA GT3 European Championship.
The Trofeo Light was designed with a much more aggressive aerodynamic package than the standard Trofeo, with a larger front splitter, adjustable rear wing and wider wheel arches. The suspension was revised and the engine tuned to deliver 430 horsepower at 7,000 rpm. With a 1,150 kg dry weight, the Trofeo Light certainly lived up to its name.
Only 10 examples of the Trofeo Light were ever produced, and this example, chassis number 04, was used by Girogio Cipollo and Bruno Corradi in the 2004 Italian GT Championship, entered in the GT2 class. As verified in Maserati's racing book 'il libro delle Corse', the Trofeo Light performed well, placing 1st in class at both Magione, Pergusa, and Vallelunga. Chassis 04 was the highest finishing Trofeo Light in class, with a final point total of 214, just below Autorlando Sport SRL's Porsche 911. In 2005, chassis 04 was entered at Misano, placing 2nd in class.
Acquired in 2019, the car has been serviced and sparingly used by its current owner, a Maserati collector who enjoyed his car in private track sessions. The car is offered with a second set of wheels fitted with rain tyres.
