In a world grown accustomed to an excess of decadence on all fronts, it is hard to imagine the mixture of awe and disbelief that greeted the Honda Gold Wing on its arrival in 1974. "Quite simply the most advanced motorcycle ever made," declared Honda, and given the mind-boggling specification: 1,000cc flat-four engine, water cooling, belt-driven overhead camshafts, shaft drive, triple disc brakes, etc, it was certainly complex if not, strictly speaking, that advanced. One of the fastest production motorcycles of its day, the Gold Wing was described in Honda's Stateside ads as "the epitome of what touring is all about", and proved eminently capable of taking sales from both BMW and Harley-Davidson.
Offered here is the Limited Edition (LTD) version, a model conceived with American tastes in mind. This is a 'time warp' survivor, an all-original example that comes complete with the special LTD tool kit and handbook. The 'Wing sat in the private museum of Jim's Harley-Davidson in Mendon, Ohio for many years until it closed and the collection was sold off in early 2023. The odometer reading is 37,524 miles and the vendor describes the machine's cosmetic condition as excellent, the paint, chrome and gold finish almost like new; however, its mechanical condition is not known, but the engine does turn over on the starter. Recommissioning will be required before the 'Wing returns to the road. Offered with a V5C document. Keys present.
