Britain's best-known and longest-surviving bicycle maker, Raleigh also manufactured motorcycles from 1899 to 1905, and from 1919 to 1933. More recently, the Nottingham company offered a range of mopeds plus a scooter in the late 1950s/1960s, the majority of the moped range being built-under-license Mobylettes. Before the arrival of the Mobylette range however, Raleigh produced the RM1 moped using an own-brand Sturmey-Archer two-stroke engine. Built ONLY between May and December 1959, the grey-finished RM1 featured a lady's-style bicycle frame, fixed drive (no clutch) and drum brakes.
This Raleigh was purchased by the late vendor in 1995 and was laid up in his workshop as a long term project to restore. Offered for restoration, it is offered with a V5 and service manual.
