The John Hobbs Collection, 1930 Ariel 250cc Model LF Project

The John Hobbs Collection
1930 Ariel 250cc Model LF Project
Registration no. PO 2242
Frame no. L8397
Engine no. M515

In 1926, Ariel's Chief Designer Val Page laid down the basis of the company's four-stroke singles range. The following year he moved the magneto behind the engine and thus established the form in which the Ariel single would survive for the next 30 years. Offered here is an example of the overhead-valve twin-port Model LF (there was also a sidevalve version, the Model LB). An incomplete project missing mudguards, handlebars, saddle, carburettor, speedometer, exhaust system and sundry other components, this 250 Ariel is sold strictly as viewed. The machine is believed to be a partial earlier restoration retaining some original paint. Prospective purchasers must satisfy themselves with regard to the condition, completeness, date and authenticity of this motorcycle's component parts prior to bidding. Purchased from A&B Motor Vehicles of Bexhill in 1979, the machine is offered with a V5C.

Footnotes
