Rightly regarded as one of the outstanding classics of the 1970s, the Honda CB400 Four first appeared in 1974. Described as 'the poor boy's muscle bike', the CB400F boasted a combination of a four-cylinder overhead-camshaft engine in a 250-sized package that endowed it with a performance better than many 500s. With a stylish four-into-one exhaust, six gears and rear-set footrests, it was every boy-racer's dream and a huge commercial success.

This Honda CB400F was purchased new in Belfast by its late owner and comes with an extensive history file including photographs of its being raced in Ireland in the 1970s (perusal highly recommended). The machine was raced for one season until a con-rod failed; a new engine was fitted but the original crankcases are included in the sale. The currently fitted replacement engine is bored out to 498cc. Used as a paddock bike at the IoM TT, the Honda is offered as a dismantled project and sold strictly as viewed. It last ran in the 1980s. The plan was to restore the machine but the project stalled soon after it was started. The frame has been shot-blasted, checked and painted in primer; and a new exhaust and other spares purchased (see invoices on file). The machine is offered with old style logbook however It should be noted that the registration 'KOI 692, does not appear on the HPI/DVLA database having presumably lapsed, accordingly prospective bidders must satisfy themselves as to the validity of the VRN prior to bidding.
