It was only when Kawasaki came up with the 250cc Samurai, that their international market began to grow. Following with the 350cc Avenger and then the mercurial 500cc Mach III 'widow-maker', they had discovered the magical formula to captivate the international motorcyclist's heart; ultimate performance. They had been planning a larger four-cylinder machine when Honda dropped the bombshell of the CB750 four – exactly the size Kawasaki were planning. The plan was shelved, and Kawasaki retreated to lick their wounds and consider the future. A new design was formulated, and the intention was to be bigger and better, but it took a full four years to design, test and build the bike which was eventually to become the Z1 900cc Kawasaki, released at the end of 1972 for 1973. This ran until 1974 when the Z1A arrived, followed by the Z1B in 1975. This Z1B was purchased approximately two years ago, and it has been used only intermittently, for limited fair weather riding, whilst in his possession. Mileage displayed on the odometer is 1500, which is believed to be the mileage since restoration. It was the subject of a 'nut and bolt' restoration by Z-Power in 2008 at a cost of £12,347.90 (see invoice on file), and whilst in a previous ownership, featured in an article in Real Classic magazine in July 2011. Documentation consists of a current V5C, the aforementioned invoice from Z-Power, a photographic account of parts of the restoration, and a copy of the Real Classic magazine article. The machine is ready to use, and recently benefited from an oil change and new filter. There is a key for this machine.
