THE PORSCHE 911

Now on the far side of its 50th anniversary, the iconic shape of the 911 remains as coveted as it ever was. For drivers seeking state of the art technology, the seventh generation of the 911 will satisfy their needs, while each of its previous iterations provides a clear picture of the evolution of its design and formidable performance. Without question the most historically significant Porsche model of all time, the 911 lives on.

The 901 prototypes would be introduced at the September 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show, though it would be towards the end of 1964 before Porsche was ready to put the new model into production at Zuffenhausen.

Today, early 911s continue to be competitive in vintage racing and rallying, while making for one of these most popular and usable vintage sports cars for the road. The earliest models possess a unique purity and elegance, and as the first of the breed, the 1965 models are by far the most sought-after.

THE CAR OFFERED

This 1965 Porsche 911 is a beautifully presented, finished in its original colors and with its original engine. The Kardex associated with chassis number 301450 reveals that this particular Porsche was completed on June 18, 1965, and delivered on June 30, 1965. Finished in rare and captivating Bali Blue, color code 6412, it is trimmed inside with black leather.

An early example that closely resembles its predecessor, the 1964 Porsche 901, it retains many of the original design elements, distinguishing it from later models. Notable features include dual Solex carburetors with a three-piece air cleaner and double Pierburg fuel pump, setting it apart from earlier versions that used Weber carburetors. While there are a few unique details such as button dash fasteners, seat pleat count, beveled air cleaner corners for easier installation, and a slightly taller rear engine grill positioned above the recessed deck lid, the majority of the early 911 maintains the 901 configurations. The change from a 0 to a 1 in the model number was not indicative of a model change but rather a dispute between manufacturers regarding proprietary rights to use a 0 in their model numbers.

Delivered to the renowned Sonauto Porsche dealer in France and promptly handed over to its first owner, Colonel Price of the USA Army, the Colonel enjoyed driving the car for nearly 9,000 miles before it was imported back to his hometown of Leavenworth, Kansas, in September 1966, as confirmed by the Kardex.

From its inception, this vehicle has maintained its pristine condition, as evidenced by the beautifully preserved original black leather seats with headrests. The interior, apart from the headliner, remains entirely original, including the door panels. This remarkable preservation serves as a testament to the car's integrity, allowing a glimpse into the past when stepping inside its doors.

A comprehensive restoration process was undertaken to restore this Porsche 911 to its former glory around its preserved interior. Every aspect of the vehicle underwent meticulous attention, with the body stripped down to bare metal. The restoration involved the removal of all suspension, steering components, the transaxle, and the motor to ensure a thorough transformation. Precision Motors, a company renowned for its expertise in Porsche service and restoration of the 901 with the Peterson, rebuilt the motor and transaxle. The restoration also included the meticulous refurbishment of the Solex carburetors and fuel pump, alongside the installation of a new fuel tank, hard and soft brake lines, master cylinder, and calipers. The shocks, steering damper, and exhaust received a powder coating, while the hardware and chrome were expertly plated. Complete new weatherstripping and brightwork were implemented, and the chrome plating process restored the headlight, turn signal and brake lights, horns, door handles, and window frames. The original glass remains intact, with only the windshield having been replaced. The four wheels feature new chrome, while the spare tire retains its original date. Remarkably, the Webasto gas heater, with its exhaust pipe positioned below the floor as originally delivered, remains in place, as indicated by the specifications on the Porsche Factory Kardex file build sheet. The fit and finish of this vehicle are exemplary, highlighted by the presence of the original hood badge, unique front bumper guards, and the genuine inside fender water bag.

This exceptional 1965 Porsche 911 in Blue Bali presents a rare opportunity for enthusiasts and collectors alike. Its captivating history, meticulous restoration, and preservation of original features render it a truly remarkable piece of automotive heritage. Do not miss out on the chance to own this timeless classic, as it epitomizes Porsche's engineering prowess and enduring elegance. With its impeccable fit and finish, accentuated by the original hood badge, distinctive front bumper guards, and the genuine inside fender water bag, this 1965 Porsche 911 represents an exceptional addition to any collection.
