THE BUICK SIX

Buick introduced its first six-cylinder car into the line-up in 1914. Though a four would still be offered until 1924, Buick saw its future in the six due to its design which proved to be a good match for Buick's valve in head engine. Buick engineers worked diligently making the motors as smooth as possible.

The Buick Sixes have always represented an excellent value for a fun, capable, and good looking vintage car. The spirited overhead valve motor moves the medium-sized Buicks with ease. Long admired for their good performance and reliability – this may over shadow their best quality, that being their looks. Buick's clean and dignified styling is not far off and heavily borrowed from America's benchmark – Packard. The handsome looking bodies are fitted with attractive lights and grille shells that give Buicks a distinctive and handsome look.

The Buick Six Series reached a good point in 1925 when only six-cylinder models were offered. Two series, the Six and the Master Six, were offered. The larger Master Six often carried bigger closed coachwork and the smaller Six was offered with a few special "sport" body-styles. This Model 24 wears the attractive Sport Roadster coachwork, a sporty little roadster that compliments the scale of the Six chassis nicely. The Six had Buick's famous overhead valve design and displaced 207ci and putting out a respectable 63hp with a stout 140 ft-lbs of torque. The engine was matched by an easy-to-shift three-speed transmission and has four wheel mechanically operated brakes.

THE CAR OFFERED

For a spirited vintage era touring car one could not do much better than this beautifully presented roadster. Restored to a high standard both inside and out, the interior is fine buff leather with brown piping, coordinating nicely with the two-tone paintwork. The attractive sport roadster bodywork is quite rare and stylish.

A part of the Don and Lynette Short Collection for many years, the Buick has been minimally used but carefully stored since being acquired over a decade ago.

These cars are a high quality and handsome product in a scale that makes them very enjoyable to use. This would be a great first vintage car; it has a combination of reliability and user friendliness to make it a manageable car for someone new to prewar machines. Whatever the use, this Buick will prove a joy to own.
