THE PORSCHE 964

Representing a major step forward in the development of Porsche long-running and much loved 911 sports car, the Carrera 4 and Carrera 2 versions—code named "964"—were launched in 1989. The former marked the first time that four-wheel drive had been observed on a series-production 911. Porsche had experimented with four-wheel drive on the 959 supercar, and many of the lessons learned from the latter influenced the design of the 964's chassis and suspension. Face-lifted, but retaining that familiar shape, the newcomers had been given a more extensive work-over mechanically (87% of parts being claimed as entirely new).

THE MOTORCAR OFFERED

This well kept and nicely presented 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet was delivered new to Princeton (New Jersey) Porsche on July 26, 1990 and has remained in the Garden State ever since. Completed in the ever-so-elegant combination of Grand Prix White over Blue with White piping, the lengthy list of options indicate the first owner was not about to buy off the lot. In addition to the great colors, dual heated and power Sport seats, cruise control, headlamp washers, tonneau cover, and Alpine-Porsche CDC-1 AM/FM/CD stereo with optional amplifier rounded out the package while a badge delete from the rear made for a clean look at the stern.

In keeping with the thoughtful specification with which the car was originally ordered, the Porsche has received meticulous maintenance since new. Stamps in the original service book indicate the dealer service early in its life while a thick stack of records totaling over $25,000 detail the continuing service through today. Most recently, the car received a service in preparation for the auction and is reported to be in fine order.

Sold with its original owner's manual and handbooks, complete tool roll and tire inflation kit, extensive service records, and clean CARFAX, the Porsche is very much as it left the factory save for an updated Sony radio. With under 50,000 original miles, it is truly a perfect all around car—suitable as transit to a black tie dinner or the beach, it will look equally stylish at either event and is plenty sporty to make the trip there exciting!
