THE AUDI R8 V10 SPYDER QUATTRO PERFORMANCE

Introduced in 2006 and sharing a platform with the Lamborghini Gallardo, Audi's game-changing R8 brought legitimate supercar credentials to the Ingolstadt manufacturer, combining an exotic aluminum space frame and Quattro all-wheel drive with powerful, responsive, and high-revving V8 and V10 engines.

Open-top Spyder variants followed in 2010 and 2011 (V10 and V8, respectively), and the second-generation R8 debuted shortly after Lamborghini's Huracan superseded the Gallardo in 2014. Once again, the second-gen baby Lambo and second gen R8 shared a base platform, as well as a standard V10 engine configuration, with the base V8 R8 retiring at the end of Mk1 production.

Perhaps the only true modern alternative to a Porsche 911, the R8 has always offered a similarly compelling blend of performance, practicality, and all-weather, everyday usability, and in V10 Performance specification, ups the ante with even greater power, speed, and exclusivity.

THE MOTORCAR OFFERED

To a base price of $208,100 ($25,000 over standard, non-Performance Spyder spec), this 2020 R8 V10 Spyder Quattro Performance features an additional $22,000+ in options, including Daytona Gray Pearl paint (an Audi exclusive color), additional exterior carbon fiber trim, 18-way power adjustable Sport seats, Dynamic steering, and much more.

The car currently resides with its original owner and has accumulated fewer than 7,700 miles from new. In addition to the factory options listed above, the owner has invested nearly $30,000 in further upgrades, including a VF Engineering ECU tune, a RYFT high-performance exhaust system, Fabspeed air intake, and high-end Radenso integrated radar detector system with jamming capability.

The exterior features many carbon fiber trim pieces exclusive to Performance models, including airbox and convertible top/engine lid trim, mirrors and rear lip spoiler, and sideblades, as well as titanium finish rocker trim. Wheels are milled anthracite finish 20" OEM items, wrapped in standard 245/30 and 305/30 section rear tires. To this, the car features $7,200 in additional carbon trim, including the front splitter, rocker inlays, and exhaust surround. Note also optional blacked-out badges.

Beneath the automatic folding, acoustically insulated fabric roof, the car's equally striking two-seat cabin benefits from carbon shell race-style seats with diamond-stitched Nappa leather, 18-way adjustment, pneumatic leg and side bolsters, illuminated, high-gloss carbon fiber door sills, and a Bang & Olufsen premium sound system, to list only a few of many highlights.

Producing a whopping 602bhp at 8,100 screaming revolutions per minute, the car's 5.2 liter V10 bests the standard R8 V10's output by 40 horses, enabling a 0-60 mph blitz of just 3.2 seconds, and a top speed of 203 mph. As impressive as those figures are, the car's Quattro all-wheel drive system is the real star of the show, allowing effortless, all-weather security, and permitting 100% of the mighty ten-cylinder's power to be deployed even under adverse conditions.

Brakes consist of massive 15" and 14" carbon-ceramic discs with 6 and 4-piston calipers, front to rear, respectively, and the car's hand-built RYFT exhaust system liberates even more of the V10's wonderfully harmonic wail.

Only 581 R8s of all types were sold in the US in 2020, making this Spyder Performance one of the rarer modern exotic sport cars.
