THE LAND ROVER 110

Rover bosses the Wilks brothers saw the need for a tough, four-wheel-drive, utility vehicle to serve the needs of the agricultural community in the immediate post-war years, but the Land Rover's runaway success took the company by surprise. During the 1970s, experiments were begun to develop a 'next-generation' Land Rover using the Range Rover's coil-sprung chassis and a new model debuted at the 1983 Geneva International Motor Show in 110" wheelbase configuration.

THE MOTORCAR OFFERED

The Defender offered is a genuine left-hand-drive 110 that spent the majority of its life in dry, sunny Greece before being restored into the magnificent beast you see before you. Stripped down to the bare metal, it was the recipient of a frame-off restoration during which virtually every element of the car was restored or sympathetically uprated.

Under the hood, the original 3.5-liter Rover V8 and LT77 manual transmission were both rebuilt and mated to a LT230 transfer box and Salisbury rear axle—both of which were also rebuilt. Breathing through a set of reliably SU carburetors, spent dead dino juice exited through custom headers and continued out to Super Sprint stainless steel exhaust. Power is put to the pavement, mud, dirt, sand, snow, and muck through a set of black Mach 5 16" wheels shroud in 285/75R16 BFG Mud Terrain tires mounted on heavy duty Zinc Bearmach hubs.

Inside, the utilitarian and purposeful interior has been made fare more enjoyable and luxurious. Premium saddle tan leather fluted seats with three-point harness up front face matching saddle tan leather upper and lower dash pads as well as shift and parking brake boots. Gripping a MoMo wood rimmed steering wheel and aluminum shift knob, at your fingertips is an Alpine iLX-W650BT multimedia radio mounted in a TD5 middle dash console and blasting the tunes through Ground Zero component speakers and a Viper amplifier. And so that you might hear the music a bit clearer, Stinger Roadkill Ultimate Sound Deadening was used to reduce noise around you.

Outside, the attention to detail continued. LED headlights and turn signals were matched with smoked lenses on the latter as well as on the reverse and marker lights. A custom easy zip soft top keep everything dry Puma hood cover the motor. The entire truck is finished in impossible to miss Voodoo Blue paint, ensuring you'll never loose your truck on the beach or in a field.

With some 4,000 miles covered since the completion of the restoration, it is reported to be a fine driving truck both on and off the pavement. Capable of getting you out of situations many trucks couldn't' get you into, Defender of this quality will surely find a great deal of use with its next lucky owner.
