THE FORD PICKUP
Nowadays an integral part of American popular culture, the pickup truck has come to be thought of as the 20th Century equivalent of the cowboy's horse. Once viewed as strictly utilitarian commercial vehicles, they were seized on as ideal candidates for customizing and hot-rodding in the post-war era, and today, like so many fashions that start in the USA, enjoy a cult following worldwide. Having introduced its first pickup in 1917, Ford overtook chief rival Chevrolet. By 1941, Ford had started to modernize its design, but World War II put all that on hold and left the models from that year to be produced, largely unchanged, for the next six years. Upon the end of the war in 1945, Ford ramped up its production of trucks and opted for a newly designed model in 1948, the F1 line, which is when most of the major changes were made. The 1947 model was truly unique to Ford's lineup as it was the final year before the redesign, making this the last and best iteration of the 1941-1947 production run.
THE MOTORCAR OFFERED
This beautiful example of the 'end of the run' 1947 model pickup was the recipient of an exquisite restoration completed with an open checkbook. This restoration spanned over the course of six years, with over 20,000 hours dedicated into building this fine machine. The truck's restoration was completed in 2011 and has always been kept in a controlled storage environment since completion. The truck is in overall new condition considering very few miles have been added to the truck since being restored. Originally Black, this Ford is now finished in a wonderful Blue with a 2-tone grey interior featuring modern sport seats.
Propelling this truck is a built Chevrolet 327 V8 engine with a large Holley carburetor ensuring a powerful driving experience. Power is put to the ground through the ease of a 3-speed automatic transmission. Ensuring the car drives just as good as it looks, the suspension was upgraded to a much more comfortable setup consisting of a Mustang II front end complete with disc brakes. The rear was upgraded to a newer 1955 Chevrolet setup featuring drum brakes. To complete the look, rolling stock was upgraded with Cragar SS wheels, which pairs quite nicely for a truck of this nature.
The car does feature some modern day comforts including Air Conditioning, tilt steering column, VDO gauges, power steering, power windows, power cowl and vent as well as an AM/FM stereo complete with speakers installed in the seat headrests. Ron Francis wiring system ties all the electrics together ensuring smooth and reliable operation. Other features included relocating the fuel tank to the rear of the frame, addition of an aluminum high-capacity radiator as well as a remote battery system. No stone was left unturned to ensure a fun and easy to drive pickup. Accompanying the car will be a file documenting the building of the truck including receipts nearing six figures. With the odometer showing just over 400 miles, this is a wonderful opportunity to obtain a very well built and sorted classic ready to be enjoyed for miles to come.
