Footnotes

Shortly after reorganisation under new ownership as AML (1975) Ltd, Aston Martin resumed development of its highly successful V8. A host of improvements was to be incorporated in the forthcoming Series 4, scheduled for introduction in October 1978. Built from then until 1986, these cars are generally known by the factory's 'Oscar India' sobriquet, standing for 'October Introduction'. The most obvious differences were a restyled bonnet and boot-mounted spoiler, while the cabin received a redesigned dashboard and centre console, and the headlining became leather rather than cloth.

Autocar magazine found much to commend in the 'Oscar India' tested in October 1978, reckoning that this latest example from the Newport Pagnell factory stood out as the best-built and most competently finished car it have ever known Aston Martin produce.

A manual transmission model, '12368' comes with a copy of its Car Record Card showing that it left the factory finished in Jubilee Silver with dark blue interior trim, and was despatched to Hans Fischer & Co in Switzerland. The car was first owned by Kundert Frederic & Co and subsequently by AMOC member Dr Hans Schiller of Zürich.

The current owner purchased the car in June 2008 at circa 43,000 kilometres (still the current reading) whereupon it has been on static display and will now require recommissioning. Accompanying paperwork includes the purchase receipt; copy Swiss Carte Grise; advertisement; Swiss pollution document; and the aforementioned copy Car Record Card. With their improved specification and Weber carburettors, these 'Oscar India' cars are among the most sought after of Aston Martin V8s.
