In 2005, Mercedes-Benz introduced the latest W221 versions of its S-Class flagship at the Frankfurt Motor Show. In keeping with tradition, these top-of-the-range S-Class cars featured state-of-the-art technical innovations and developments in abundance, making them the most advanced in their market sector. Inside, the quality of finish and level of equipment were more than enough to convince the S -Series driver that his/her money had been well spent.

At the top of the (non-AMG) range sat the S 600L with the 510bhp 5.5-litre twin-turbo V12, with power reaching the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission.

"Performance is spectacular for a 2,180kg limo," declared Autocar. "0-62mph is posted in an Aston DB9-beating 4.6sec and even on dry roads the traction control is tested when the 1,900rpm torque peak is reached in second and third gears.

"Active Body Control makes swift progress possible on twisty roads, with steering and body control notably improved over the old car's..."

This example has no paperwork and, as it comes to market having been on static display, will naturally require recommissioning.

Buyers' Premium and Charges
Like the vast majority of auctioneers Bonhams charge a Buyer's Premium on the Hammer Price of each Lot purchased and this is subject to VAT. Some lots may also be subject to VAT on the Hammer Price and these lots will be clearly marked with a symbol (†, Ω, *) printed beside the lot number.
