1954 Austin Healey 100 (BN1) Competition Roadster to 100M Specification Registration no. UFM 580 Chassis no. BN.159303 Engine no. 1B.214577
This FIA-compliant Austin-Healey has a most impressive racing palmarès. It is understood that the Healey was hill climbed and sprinted in its early years before being stored from 1969 to 1985. Between 1985 and 1986, it was rebuilt to 100M specification by renowned marque specialists Denis Welch Motorsport of Burton-on Trent. The car subsequently competed in several race series, achieving class wins in the AMOC Thoroughbred Championship, the AHC Challenge, and the HSCC Pre-60s Sports Car Championship. It was even raced by Denis Welch himself during this time. Since 1986, the Healey has been rebuilt several times and during the vendor's ownership has been maintained by front running race team Woolmer Classic Engineering of Bedford.
Boasting high-lift camshafts, 8.1:1 pistons, steel con-rods, high-power oil and water pumps, and a balanced racing flywheel, the 2.7-litre four-cylinder engine is coupled via a Tilton Engineering competition clutch to a four-speed manual gearbox with a Sebring gear set and up-rated overdrive. The car's 100M specification also includes larger (2") SU carburettors and stiffened race suspension. It also features FIA-specification Dunlop front brakes, an 80-litre aluminium fuel tank, a gel-type battery, a dynator conversion, and TRS harnesses. The 'vintage' Kirkey aluminium racing seat was recently installed and is in excellent condition. We are advised that there is no known bodywork damage, while the few scratches and stone chips on lower body panels are entirely commensurate with its racing use.
The most recent service was carried out in May 2020 at Woolmer Classic Engineering. Prior to this, the car was race-prepared in October and April of 2019.
The car's FIA Appendix K Historic Technical Passport was originally obtained in 1986. It has been regularly renewed (the latest occasion being in November 2020) and is now valid until 2030. The car also comes with an old-style continuation logbook (issued 1962); a BMIHT Certificate; a review of the 1986 racing season; a detailed record of service and race preparation; numerous bills; an additional rally-style roll hoop for the passenger side; a set of four spare wheels; a V5C registration Certificate; and the original driver's seat. This desirable Austin-Healey racer is worthy of the closest inspection,
