Following the destruction of its Coventry factory in an air raid in November 1940, Triumph relocated to Meriden, Warwickshire and recommenced production of the single-cylinder sidevalve 3SW and overhead-valve 3HW military models. The latter was based on the pre-war Tiger 80 sports roadster, the engine of which was modified to incorporate rocker boxes cast integrally with the cast-iron cylinder head, aluminium alloy being in short supply. Triumph's single-cylinder models were used mainly by the Royal Navy for despatch duties and general liaison, with the less-powerful 3SW reserved for the WRNS.
This 3HW had already been restored when it was purchased in its present condition in Greece 25 years ago. First registered in the UK in 2016, the Triumph has not run for some 25 years and will require re-commissioning at the very least before further use. Sold strictly as viewed, the machine comes with a TOMC dating certificate and a V5C document.
