new 650cc twin joined BSA's 500cc A7 model in 1949, the latter's engine being revised along the lines of the new design at the same time. The existing parallel twin architecture was retained for the new A10, with 360-degree crankshaft and single camshaft at the rear of the cylinder block, as was the four-speed gearbox bolted directly to the crankcase in a form of semi-unit construction, and the tele-fork-and-plunger cycle parts. Named 'Golden Flash', the new 650 was strikingly finished in pale beige metallic. The model was up-dated with swinging-arm frame and separate gearbox for 1955 and continued in production until 1962.
Restored circa five years ago, the BSA Golden Flash offered here is described by the private vendor as a delightful, well maintained and easy starting bike that looks beautiful without being over restored. It is a relatively recent acquisition only offered for sale because of the vendor's advancing years and ill health. The tyres are new and the BSA, although not 'mint', presents splendidly. The seat is unmarked. Given that the machine is 61 years old, the odometer reading of 24,000 miles is obviously incorrect, but the accompanying MoT history shows that only some 300 miles have been covered in the last eight years and very little use prior to that. The machine is offered with a V5C and comes with spare gaskets and an instruction manual.
