Competition was always at the forefront of Scott thinking and, from the very early days of the company, machines were deployed by privateer and factory alike to push the boundaries of speed. Success came early with victories in the Isle of Man TT in the Senior races in 1912 and 1913, but further achievements were thinner on the ground following the First World War, and, although coming close on occasions, no further TT victories would follow. NE 9311 was acquired by the vendor's deceased father at an indeterminate time, and it is not known if it was ever used during his ownership. An old photograph among the pre-restoration photos shows the machine with racing numbers, and it is believed that it was raced at some time in the past. This may explain some of the apparently non-standard parts now fitted, such as the petrol and oil tanks, and the later Webb-type forks. The Scott was delivered to Steve Tonkin for restoration (1994 invoice on file), and 1995 it was loaned to Lakeland Motor Museum to have on display, until being transported to the Stafford sale. It has not been run since completion of the restoration, and although the engine turns freely, the machine will require re-commissioning and safety checks if it is to be used. The frame number is not visible due to the petrol tank, and the engine is a replacement of similar vintage. Documentation comprises a continuation RF60 buff log book from 1936, together with the aforementioned restoration invoice and pre-restoration photographs. It should be noted that the Vehicle Registration Number 'NE 9311' is not listed in the HPI/DVLA databases. Accordingly, prospective bidders must satisfy themselves with regard to the validity of the vehicle's registration number prior to bidding.
