This Norton 'kneeler' racing sidecar outfit was built new on a Featherbed frame and is running an early 1960s Norton Atlas Engine. There is a letter on file stating it was purchased from Ray Bennett, who ran a motorcycle shop in Coventry in the 1960s. It is also said that it used to run with a full aluminium fairing and may be an ex-Charlie Freeman outfit.
The vendor purchased the outfit in 2009 from Nick Saunders, who had raced it with the British Historic Racing Club. In fact, the outfit had been raced continuously from the 1960s up until a few years ago when the vendor retired it due to his ill health. Since then the vendor has had the complete frame powder coated and a special ceramic coating applied to the exhausts. He has also had the engine completely rebuilt by former Norton engineer, Pete Lovell. The engine has not been raced since but has been run. The vendor has also fitted a Pazon Smart Fire electronic ignition system and twin Amal Concentric Mk2 carburettors. With a little fine-tuning the machine should be race ready. This distinctive outfit has been successfully raced with both the CRMC and the British Historic Racing Club by the vendor and his passenger, and is registered with both clubs.
