1987 Hejira Racing Developments 250cc Racing Motorcycle
Frame no. 87-240-5
Engine no. 143176

The brainchild of Derek Chittenden, Hejira began in 1972 when he started to make a racing chassis which housed a range of different engines over the years. With a cantilever monoshock layout, the bikes achieved considerable success in club level racing in the UK throughout the 1970s and 80s. Initially a tubular steel frame, this gave way to box-section steel. Utilising the 250 Rotax engine, this machine was acquired by the vendor in 1999 for sprints, but laid unused for some years. Eventually, the vendor entrusted the Hejira to Sammy Miller for a full restoration, which was duly completed in 2017, following which it was placed on loan display at the Jurby Museum in the Isle of Man. Last run in 2017, the Hejira should only need modest re-commissioning and basic safety checks prior to use. Documentation comprises the invoice for restoration, together with various copy press cuttings about the marque.
