THE PORSCHE TYPE 993
An important landmark in the Porsche 911's continuing development arrived for 1995 with introduction of the Type 993, destined to be the last to use the air-cooled engine that had been a distinguishing feature of the 911 since its introduction 30 years previously. Over the years the 911 had received numerous aerodynamic and safety-inspired add-ons, diluting the purity of the original form; the Type 993's arrival marked a return to basic principles, being recognizably a 911 but one in which all functions had been harmoniously integrated in a truly outstanding example of modern automotive styling. A Cabriolet and Coupe version was offered, all powered by the latest 3.6-liter version of Porsche's perennial air-cooled flat-six engine. The Type 993 is today regarded as a highly collectible classic.
THE MOTORCAR OFFERED
This stunning narrow body 993 comes from the peak of production of air-cooled Porsches. Manufactured at Zuffenhausen during September of 1995 as a 1996 model-year, US market Carrera C2 coupe, the new Porsche was delivered to its new owner in Michigan towards the end of 1995. One of fewer than 10,433 total 993 Carrera's completed in that year, not many were built in this wonderful color combination. This Carrera was finished in seldomly seen Speed Yellow over a Black interior; besides the optional color, the car was delivered with an assortment of factory option codes including the rarely seen rear seat delete option. The complete list of option codes are: 398 –17" Wheels, 419-Luggage Tray/Rear Seat Delete, 437 - 8 Way Power Bucket Seats, 445 - Wheel Caps (Grey w/ Crest), 454 - Speed Control, 498 - w/o Model Crest, 650 – Sunroof, and 688 - Disc Changer.
Today the car shows in terrific condition and with about 71,172 miles on the odometer at the time of photographing. This 993 does include its original silver 17-inch wheels along with the 18-inch turbo twist wheels that are currently installed on the vehicle. Very light signs of use can be seen on the interior, a testimony to the car owner's careful use and the quality of these fine cars. This rear-wheel drive Carrera comes with its set of books, tools and a receipt of its latest service performed by an authorized Porsche dealerships. Being in such wonderful condition and with a striking color combination, this Carrera C2 is well worth extra consideration.
