THE CITROËN 'DEUX CHEVAUX'

Ranking alongside the Volkswagen Beetle, Mini, and Land Rover as one of the classic mass-produced cars of the post-war era, Citroën's quirky 2CV debuted in 1949. Intended to provide basic transport in a period of post-war austerity, the 2CV outlived its humble beginnings, going on to attain cult status as the favored car of the environmentally-concerned motorist. Although the original 375cc air-cooled flat-twin engine grew, eventually, to 602cc in 1961, the 2CV's performance remained modest at around 70mph flat-out, not that terminal velocity concerned the majority of its devotees, for whom the roomy interior, full-length sunroof and frugal fuel consumption were of far greater importance.

THE MOTORCAR OFFERED

This delightful French classic on offer is one of the later models manufactured several decades into the 40-plus year 2CV production-run, and therefore benefits from many years of refinement and development work. As a 1981 model-year car, it actually has quite a special status among James Bond fans as well, as exactly a 1981 Citroën 2CV was used in the 1981 Bond movie 'For Your Eyes Only', where it was driven by Roger Moore of course, performing an impressive car chase on the Greek island of Corfu.

The Citroën's exterior is finished in a dazzling two-tone red and white 'Dolly' paint scheme, while a grey Herringbone-pattern cloth interior is fitted inside. The car appears to have been delivered new to the German market, and today presents in what is believed to be a largely original and preserved condition as opposed to restored. The 2CV also has the folding roof, allowing for 'en plein air' four-passenger motoring when desired, but with full weather protection if needed. The car is offered from the Sunshine State of Florida, where it was previously owned by renowned Bentley collector Dale Powers. Among the most iconic motorcars ever produced, this wonderfully presented example of the charming 'Deux Chevaux' would be a fun getaway car to the beach or ranch.
