The Triton is a very happy marriage of Triumph twin power and Norton road holding that is rightly regarded by enthusiasts as the quintessential British "sports special" almost to the point of it being defined as the stereotypical café racer. This well-known, universal hybrid first emerged in the 1950s yet continues to be built around the world today, enjoying almost marque status.
The example offered here, featuring a pre-unit 650cc Triumph Thunderbird engine nestled into a 1953 Norton featherbed frame, was purchased by Mr. Jacobs in 1986. Showing some patina on the engine brightwork, but looking far better than its age would suggest, the motorcycle was given a partial restoration some years ago and features a nicely repainted gas tank with hand painted pinstriping and "Triton" logo customary for these highly regarded combination machines. With its low-rise handlebars, clubman style seat, and tachometer rakishly set in a custom housing with the redline facing twelve o'clock, the bike certainly looks ready to make a run to the Ace Cafe. Having been on display for several years, the bike will require a complete service before prospective buyers don their goggles and roll up their jeans.
