Introduced in 1994, the Road King is a nod to the 1940s FL that confirmed the huge success of its predecessor – the EL and laid ground for the introduction of the FLH in 1949 followed by its evolutions. Denominated FLHR, the King of the Road appears as one of the brand flagship models featuring hard bags, windshield and retro headlight to keep a look as close as the Big Twins from the past. Apart from 2008, the model got its wheelbase stretched to 63.5 inches, the fuel capacity bumped to six gallons and received new triple-disc Brembo brakes. In 2012, the FLHR logically received the latest version the brand mighty V-twin – the new 1690cc Twin Cam 103. It is also to be noted that the model is the base of Special Editions for the Fire and Police Department.
Every now and again a manufacturer manages to produce a machine that has all the good looks and style of one of their best remembered models—but with all the modern niceties that come with decades of development. This blue and white Road King has all of the style of a FLH but with the benefits of age and wisdom that accompanies more than half a century of advancements. With Gasser style wheels, auxiliary driving lights and a full windscreen, this saddle bagged cruiser will no doubt vacuum up the miles with reckless abandon. Showing a mere 1,245 miles on the ticker since leaving the factory in October of 2015, this motorcycle has been on static display in recent years and should be treated to some recommissioning prior to active service.
