BMW's ubiquitous flat-twin motor had been around in pushrod form (racers excepted) for decades before the Bavarian firm finally got around to updating it with twin overhead camshafts in the early years of the 21st Century. Introduced in 2007 to showcase this new engine was the exclusive - and expensive - HP2 range, designed to represent the pinnacle of BMW's motorcycling technology. Three models were offered: the HP2 off-roader, HP2 Sport superbike, and HP2 Megamoto.
To the regular R1200S, the HP2 Superbike adds new 4-valve heads sporting dual overhead cams, bumping the powerplant to 128hp and 85 ft-lb of torque. Equipped with a six-speed gearbox featuring a quick-shifter, the bike was ready for a red line at 9,500rpm and aggressive shifting for an even more radical road and track experience. The whole recipe got perfected by the addition of Ohlins shocks, Brembo monoblocks with radial-mounting and carbon fiber pieces to reduce weight.
The bike offered today has been owned by its careful and loving owner since 2012, now showing 4,100 miles at the odometer. Following a recent dealer service and installation of fresh tires, the bike is ready to be used by a new rider. The tool kit, shop manual DVD, owner's manual and HP2-adapted S1000R mirrors are coming with the bike. A video of the bike being ridden is available upon request.
