1982 De Tomaso Pantera GT5 Coupé Coachwork by Carrozzeria Embo Registration no. UK registered (see text) Chassis no. THPNAS09228
A very rare right-hand drive model, this Pantera GT5 was delivered new to South Africa in April 1982. The car has the European-specification GT5 'L' front air dam and was originally finished in 'Argento' (silver), trimmed in black leather. The interior features a Sony audio system; Veglia gauges; a removable Nardi steering wheel; billet gear shifter; and bucket seats with 4-point harnesses.
This particular GT5 is powered by a 383ci (6.3-litre) Chevrolet V8 'stroker' engine, which drives through the car's standard ZF five-speed manual transaxle. Powerful and reliable, this upgraded motor features Edelbrock RPM cylinder heads; roller rockers; and a 770cfm Holley Street Avenger carburettor.
To cope with this engine's increased power output, the cooling system (water pump and hoses) has been upgraded throughout, featuring all new stainless steel piping and a superior electric radiator fan. In addition, this GT5 has upgraded brakes, fully adjustable Alden suspension, and its original Campagnolo magnesium wheels are shod with Pirelli tyres.
The car benefited from an 18-month restoration in 2016/7, undertaken in South Africa and is still in excellent condition. It has been checked and verified by the International Pantera Registry as an authentic GT5, and comes with a number of original factory papers (including the original invoice from Embo to de Tomaso for the bodyshell) showing it having been built as a right hand drive GT5. While in South Africa the De Tomaso featured in Hot Rods magazine, a copy of which comes with it. Furthermore, it also featured on 'Ignition' the local television programme much like the UK's Top Gear where the reviewer concluded that this example is 'probably the most beautiful GT5 out there'.
The current vendor purchased the Pantera in South Africa and is now available to view in the UK. A NOVA has been issued in the UK for the car, it has been MOT'd and registration is currently being completed at DVLA. The car will be offered with a DVLA assigned aged related plate.
Currently displaying a total of 57,000 kilometres (approximately 35,400 miles) on the odometer. Interested parties should note that we are informed they were all fitted with kilometre speedometers and odometers from the factory so we should not surprised at a kilometre odometer in the car.
This is an excellent example of a highly collectable Italian supercar, being one of just 12 right hand drive GT5 Pantera's built by the factory (out of 242 GT5s in total)
