Footnotes

The acquisition of Aston Martin by Company Developments in 1972 brought with it a change of name for the V8-engined cars: out went DBS V8, in came AM V8. This new Series 2 was readily distinguishable by its restyled front which now featured two instead of four headlamps and recalled the looks of the earlier DB six-cylinder cars. Electronic ignition and air conditioning were now standard.

Introduced in 1973, the Series 3 employed a quartet of Weber 42 DCNF carburettors instead of the previous Bosch mechanical fuel injection, the change bringing with it increased torque and necessitating a larger bonnet bulge. Despite the switch, fuel economy improved and even in automatic-transmission form the Weber-equipped car proved almost as quick as the preceding manual version.

Its accompanying copy Car Record Card shows that this left-hand drive, automatic transmission V8 was completed on 21st March 1978 and shipped to Aston Martin Lagonda Inc in the USA. The car's original colour scheme was Silver Jubilee with Light Blue interior trim and Scandinavian Blue carpets. Accompanying documentation includes a sales contract dated 23rd June 2010 between then owner Bernhard Hofstetter and purchaser Thomas Wolfensberger; and a Classic Driver advertisement from December 2010. The CD advert states that the car (then located near Zürich) had undergone "extensive restoration by Swiss specialists to its original state", that it had received a partly new interior and new paint, and was in top condition mechanically and cosmetically. The other paperwork consists of a Swiss Carte Grise; a Swiss import document; an Aston Martin Service book; the Owner's Handbook and a spare set of keys.

It has been fitted with an aftermarket Becker Mexico radio, complete with instruction manual. The current odometer reading states 74,637 KM. This Aston-Martin V8 looks like a well restored car that has not been driven a lot in the last ten years. It would benefit of a mechanical check-up but it is in very good aesthetic condition.

Aston Martin V8 Série 3 Saloon 1978
Châssis n° V8/11903/LCA
Moteur n° V5401903/LFA
