Britain's best-known bicycle maker, Raleigh also manufactured motorcycles from 1899 to 1905 and from 1919 to 1933. More recently, the Nottingham company offered a range of mopeds plus a scooter in the late 1950s/1960s, the majority of the moped range being built-under-license Mobylettes. An exception though, was the 12"-wheeled Wisp, which, its engine excepted, was Raleigh's own design. The engine was carried beneath a tubular spine frame; the latter was rigid, as were the forks, and the Wisp was stopped by drum brakes. Fuel was carried in a cylindrical tank beneath the saddle. The Wisp was still catalogued when production of all Raleigh's mopeds ceased in 1969. Seemingly almost complete, albeit seriously corroded, this Wisp is offered for restoration and sold strictly as viewed. There are no documents with this Lot.
