Footnotes

This particular Porsche 911E 2.2-Litre was sold new by SONAUTO in Paris and remained in France for its entire life. The car was updated to G model specification in the 1980s ~ a fairly common practice at the time ~ to give the car a more modern appearance. The vendor purchased the Porsche in Normandy, and restoration started. It was driveable at that time and thus a sound basis for restoration to original specification. Indeed, when the bodyshell was stripped, it was found to be in excellent unmolested condition.

The original wheel arches and floors were good enough to be retained. During the restoration, all of the 1980s 'upgrades' were removed and the car was brought back to its original 1970 appearance. This, among other things, meant fitting new front wings and new bumpers.

This Porsche 911E now has a 2.2-litre 911T engine (engine no. 6100233), which has been rebuilt to 911S specification complete with new bearings; a remanufactured crankshaft; and 'S' valve springs, pistons and camshafts. The car is also equipped with an 'S' heat exchanger with a twin-pipe exhaust in stainless steel. The original single-pipe exhaust is included in the sale together with a (worn out) crankcase. It is worthwhile noting that the engine covers have been refinished in green, the correct colour for a 911E unit (a 911S would be red).

Originally equipped with a four-speed Sportomatic semi-automatic gearbox, the car had already been fitted with the current ZF five-speed manual gearbox, which was overhauled during restoration. A torsion bar has been fitted to the front suspension for improved road holding. At the same time, 'Le Mans' bucket seats provide better location during spirited cornering (original seats are also included). Original Porsche insulated vinyl material was used for the headlining, and the instruments and dashboard were reconditioned.

Although this car left the factory finished in Hell Elfenbein, an ivory-like colour, it was decided that Porsche Tangerine 2323 was better suited to such a sporting motor car. A layer of epoxy was applied to give the body extra protection against corrosion, followed by a coat of spray filler. The suspension arms were powder-coated and the braking system comprehensively overhauled. On the electrical side, the starter motor has been reconditioned, a new Delco distributor fitted, while the wiring has been replaced (some of the original connectors have been retained).

The restoration was concluded in March 2017 and carried out to a very high standard. Invoices are available together with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and an excellent illustrated record of the works (perusal recommended).
