THE JAGUAR XK150"The Jaguar XK150 is undeniably one of the world's fastest and safest cars. It is quiet and exceptionally refined mechanically, docile and comfortable... we do not know of any more outstanding example of value for money," declared
The Autocar.
Introduced in 1957, the '150' is the ultimate expression of Jaguar's XK series. Revisions to the bodywork retained the traditional XK look but the revised fender line made room for a wider cowl and windshield and fed into thinner doors that much improved comfort. Jaguar adopted the disc brakes which had so dramatically demonstrated their effectiveness in the C-types at Le Mans, improving not only braking performance but also the XK 150's marketing.
In standard form, it retained the 190bhp of its predecessor. But for those requiring a little more 'poke', 'Special Equipment' and 'S' versions came with 210 and 250bhp respectively, the latter delivering an astonishing 0-60mph time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 136mph.
At first the '150' was available in fixed and drophead coupé forms; the open roadster version didn't appear until the following year. The roadster version would become the rarest XK 150 model, now with rollup windows and thorough weather protection to make it the ideal vehicle for a day's enjoyment or a long trip through variable weather. Looks were not to be compromised, however, as the XK150 Roadster retained the traditional Roadster's windowsill dip and top that was fully enclosed when retracted for an especially attractive profile.
THE MOTORCAR OFFEREDAn original U.S. delivered example, this 'S' was built on September 25, 1958, dispatched 20 days later and supplied to the US through Jaguar Cars New York. Finished in Carmen Red with Black hides and a Black top, it was delivered to a new 'J. Wetherbee', as verified by its Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate. It is understood that Wetherbee kept the car until 1964, when it was sold to its second owner, Robert Lundgoot of Dearborn, Michigan, who registered the car in Michigan on July 29, 1966. A copy of the 1966 title is on file. It is reported that the car was put away as a partially disassembled project in 1972.
In 2010, the car was purchased by of Jaguar enthusiast and restorer Jim Kakuska of Naperville, Illinois. Photos of the car as purchased fresh from storage are in the file. The owner of JK Restoration, Kakuska would go on to restore the car and later rebuild the engine in 2013. It during this restoration that the color was changed to an emerald green over biscuit leather. During the rebuild, a replacement head, which was machined, resurfaced, and fitted with new valves and valve seats, was fitted on the otherwise numbers matching car. In addition to the head, new 9:1 compression ratio pistons were fitted along with new rods and main bearings, timing chains and tensioners, and a new oil pump. Additionally, the crankshaft was ground to perfection, the connecting rods were overhauled, and the flywheel was resurfaced. The rebuilt engine was then balanced, while a new gas tank, wiring loom, and radiator were installed. Receipts on file detail much of the work completed.
The current owner acquired the Jaguar on December 12, 2016. Since acquisition, the XK150S has been serviced by marque experts Donovan Motorcar Service in Lenox, Massachusetts with receipts on file from 2018 and 2019 services to the brakes, carburetors, exhaust manifolds, and cooling system. Over the last five years, a bit over 500 miles have been enjoyed in this lovely machine.
The XK150S is truly the embodiment of Sir William Lyons market motto for Jaguar – Grace, Pace, Space. This beautiful example, presented in lovely colors, is complete with copies of service records, its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Certificate, a tool roll, jack, two sets of brand new floor mats (in biscuit and brown), and more Eligible for innumerable wonderful tour events, including the Colorado Grand, Copperstate 1000, Going to the Sun Rally, Mountain Mille, and New England 1000, it is equally at home on a 1000 mile run through the mountains or desert as it is going to the local eatery for a fine meal. And with a car this gorgeous, you can rest assured it will be parked out front!
