Competition success in the USA prompted Triumph to adopt the 'Daytona Tiger' name for their top-of-the range sports 500 in 1966, Buddy Elmore having won that year's prestigious Daytona 200 race on a works twin, a feat Gary Nixon repeated the following year on his way to the first of back-to-back AMA titles. Housed in a new frame common to the Tiger 90 and Tiger 100, the twin-carburetor Daytona engine produced 39bhp at 7,400rpm. Dubbed a 'Bonnie in miniature' by the motorcycling press, the new sporting middleweight came equipped with the 8"-diameter front brake of its larger sibling. At around 110mph, top end performance was not that far short of the 650's either. The USA was Triumph's biggest market and models were produced to cater for the differing demands of the East and West coasts, often featuring raised handlebars and high-level 'street scrambler' exhaust systems in addition to alternative fuel tanks and other fittings. With the re-launch of the BSA-Triumph range in November 1970, by which time it had gained the 650's excellent twin-leading-shoe front brake, the 'Tiger' part of the name was dropped, and the model designation changed to 'T100R'.

The Daytona offered here has most likely been subject to partial restoration, especially looking at the paint and few chrome parts. With an engine appearing a little more aged, it was probably on its last owner's 'to-do' list. Thus, the mechanical condition of the bike is unknown, and an overhaul will be needed to get the bike ready for street riding. Additionally, the ignition key is unfortunately missing and the production of a new one will be necessary.
