Footnotes

Bodied by Hooper & Co, London-based carriage makers to Queen Victoria and King Edward VII, and arguably the finest of all British coachbuilders, this Daimler DE36 straight eight limousine boasts an overall length of 18' 6" and a very large boot, and weighs approximately three tonnes. 'KDU 487' was purchased by the late owner in 1987 and has been in dry storage since then without undergoing any restoration. Original to the chassis, the engine was last running in 1990. We are advised that the starter motor needs refurbishment and that the original radiator surround is in very good order. The pre-selector gearbox was functioning when the vehicle was last moved in 1987.

The bodywork is mostly aluminium with steel front wings, and has two covered spare wheels mounted on the front wings. The front and rear bumpers are in good order and just need re-plating. The door hinges and door fittings have dropped, and the adjustable windscreen glass is broken but the mechanism is workable. The Lucas P100 headlights are undamaged. Overall, the coachwork needs attention but is un-corroded.

Upholstered in cloth with wood trim, the interior has a glass division between the front and rear compartments, while there are three occasional seats (in good order) attached to the front seat back. The dashboard and instrumentation will need attention and probably some replacement, while the steering wheel needs re-covering.
